A 45-year-old suspected child trafficker identified as Mary Yakubu, has
been arrested by the Nigeria police with 23 children in Taraba state.
She was paraded along with other
suspects on Monday, March 2, at the headquarters of the state police command in
Jalingo.
The children, who are made of
fourteen boys and nine girls are between the ages of four and seven.
Speaking to newsmen David Misal, the Taraba state police public relations officer,
said that the suspect was nabbed with the kids at a park in Bali local
government area while they were about to leave.
Misal further explained that all the
kids are now with the ministry of social welfare in Taraba state.
The police spokesperson added that about seven parents of the children have
been arrested in connection with the trafficking as further investigations are
ongoing to catch others.
The suspect on her part explained that this is her first time of doing such
as the children were given to her by their parents to look for someone who
needs kids and take care of them. The 45-year-old suspect who is a mother of
seven and a teacher added that she did not collect any money from the parents
before taking the children.
