A 60 year-old dad and his 32 year-old son shot each other dead after the son killed his dad’s dog after the animal attacked his girlfriend’s child.

Kevlin James Coker drove to his son Kelvin’s Nicholas Coker’s home in Wagersville, Alabama, on Saturday to confront him about the dog, and ended up shooting his son in the torso.

Kelvin Jr is then said to have returned fire, and struck his dad in the neck. Both father and son ended up succumbing to the injuries they inflicted on each other, with Washington County Sheriff Richard Stringer branding the men ‘very dysfunctional.’

Kelvin Jr is said to have shot four of his family’s pitbulls after one of them attacked his lover’s child. He ended up killing two of the pets, one of which belonged to his father, WFLA reported.

One of Kelvin Jr’s other brothers is then said to have warned him that their dad would be outraged over the shooting, prompting Kelvin Jr to brandish his shotgun and order that sibling off his property.

Kelvin Sr arrived moments later, and argued with his son, until Kelvin Jr brandished his shotgun. Kelvin Sr produced his own handgun, and shot his son first. Kelvin Jr was able to return fire and hit his dad despite his injuries.

Sheriff Stringer said afterwards: ‘It’s unfortunate that they would not value human life not any more than that.’

Kelvin Jr’s girlfriend Ariel Anderson has disputed investigators claims, and says Kelvin Sr shot his son dead before taking his own life.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘Nic Coker did not kill his daddy and they did not have an argument!!

‘Nic was protecting my daughter from his and his dads pitbulls that were hurting her and his dad just showed up and shot him because he was mad that Nic killed his dog then he shot himself!’

But a coroner’s examination found that there was no way Kelvin Sr could have shot himself dead.

Trigger-happy Kelvin Sr was arrested in 2012 for shooting his other son three times.
