Edo state House of Assembly deputy speaker impeached

The deputy speaker of the Edo state House of Assembly, Hon. Yekini Idiaye has been impeached.

The deputy speaker who was impeached on Wednesday, August 5 during plenary session of the assembly in Benin city, the state capital has been replaced by Honourable Roland Asoro, the member representing Orhionmwon II Constituency in the Edo state House of Assembly as elected deputy speaker.

Idiaye had earlier declared his support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

Reacting to Idiaye’s declaration, the Edo state deputy governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, called on the people of Akoko-Edo local government to ask Idiaye for their share of the N40 million given to each of them by the former national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. He said the lawmaker and other member were given the money to influence their support for the APC candidate, Ize-Iyamu. Addressing supporters in the Lampese area of the local government, Shaibu said Idiaye, who represents Akoko-Edo Constituency I, Idiaye, and member representing Akoko-Edo Constituency II, Agbaje, were paid N40 million to influence their support for Ize-Iyamu.
