Kano LG Bans Night Courtship, High Cost Of Marriage

Dawakin Tofa Local Government council in Kano State has banned prospective couples from night courtship and reduced the cost of the marriage.

The chairman of the council Ado Tambai confirmed this in a statement issued to DAILY POST.

This is coming at the time the youths in the Northern parts of the country are complaining more about the high cost of marriage.

He said the new law was approved by the local government council to simplify weeding activities in the area.

He explained that under the new law, prospective couples are banned from any courtship without the consent of the girl’s parents.

“Also the council has banned night courtship and the number of boxes is limited to only three”

Tambai also noted that the new law was implemented by the local government council after a series of consultations with the Bichi Emirates council, security agencies and other stakeholders.

He said the local government council has also set up a special committee to ensure full enforcement of the law.

The chairman charged village and ward heads as well as Imams to give the directive their maximum support.
