NCDC releases situation report of COVID-19, index now 8068 with 229 new cases confirmed (Analysis/breakdown)

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has disclosed that a total of 45,683 samples have been collected and examined since February 2020 when coronavirus entered the country.

The national disease control agency made the disclosure in its situation report of Sunday, May 24, as Nigeria’s Covid-19 cases spiked in magnitude, posing a great challenge to the economy and security of lives.
7839 people have been tested positive to the fast-spreading virus which has plunged the world into the arguably biggest crisis in modern history.

Recall that the NCDC on Sunday night, announced 313 new cases in 17 states with Lagos leading the pack with 148 new cases.

In its subsequent update on Monday, May 25, the agency stated that 2,263 people have been successfully discharged as the pandemic spreads to 35 states including the FCT.

NCDC gave further breakdown as follows. Demographics 1. Total male cases – 5357 (68%) 2. Total female cases – 2482 (32%) Most affected age group 31 – 40 (24%) People of interest 9977 (Total) 9,695 (97.2% – Exceeded Follow Up) Cases by travel history – 210 (3%) Community-based contact – 1792 (23%) Number of cases with no epidemic link – 4395 (56%) Number of incomplete cases – 1442 (18%).

The total as of infection by the NCDC as of Monday night was 8068 with 2311 discharged and 233 fatalities.
