The Nigerian armed
forces have retired 527 soldiers, ratings and airmen from service and trained
them with entrepreneurial skills needed for easy reintegration into civil
livelihoods.
The Nation reports that the retirees comprised
of 228 from the Nigerian Army (NA), 118 from the Nigerian Navy (NN) and 181
trainees from the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
The minister of
defence, Bashir Magashi speaking at the graduation ceremony for the retirees
said that the sacrifice of the personnel is appreciated by government, notes
that the federal government was committed to improving the welfare for the
military.
The retirees also went
through a six-month preparatory and skills acquisition training at the Nigerian
Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) Oshodi, where they were taught
entrepreneurial skills.
He advised the retired
military personnel to take proactive steps to avoid falling victims to some
challenges of post service life such as inadequate resources, misuse of
benefits, poor management of mental and physical health among others.
