The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has blocked attempts by some corps members seeking posting or redeployment over unethical conduct.
Director General of the Scheme, Brig.- Gen, Shuaibu Ibrahim, speaking during the opening ceremony of the 2020 Inspectors’ Development Programme held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria Abuja on Wednesday, said investigation is still ongoing into the unethical practices and those involved would be disciplined accordingly.
“These are some of the challenges faced by the Scheme; some persons are trying to compromise our staff. And there are some corps members that got themselves involved in unethical practices in order to get redeployment. We had earlier approved it but later discovered that they were involved in some unethical practices and we had to cancel it, and still investigating them. Anybody involved will be discipline accordingly. They are about a thousand nationwide. They would all remain in their states of service; only the genuine ones will be redeployed.
“It is very important that we train and retrain our inspectors so that they can intone with our best practices. As a scheme, we are not going to condone unethical practices, or the standard of our scheme. Our relocation and redeployment is free, we don’t pay for it. Once you have genuine reasons for redeployment, and those that are married are naturally sent to where their husbands are.
“So I want to appeal to Nigerians that they should not fall prey to this fraudsters, our deployment is free and where there are challenges, NYSC have a way of resolving it and this also goes to my staff, that under no circumstances should they allowed themselves to be used, or get themselves involved in any unethical practices. Therefore, I urge you to avoid unethical practices that are capable of tarnishing the image of the scheme by performing your duties diligently,” he said.
