The National Youth
Service Corp is to spend N32 million in buying prosthetic limbs for a Corps
member who lost his right hand while travelling to his place of primary
assignment in Taraba State.
The Director General
of the NYSC Brig. Gen. Shuaib Ibrahim made this known in his remarks at a
meeting with the NYSC Media Correspondents in Abuja.
Represented by the
Director of Press and Public Relations, Adenike Adeyemi, Brig. Gen. Ibrahim said
the scheme would refund all medical expenses incurred by the relatives of the
Corp Member as well as ensuring prompt visits to some sick ones and any other accident
victims whose hospital bills are underwritten.
The DG also speaking on
the security of Corps Members, especially before, during and after the last
elections held in Kogi and Bayelsa States said several advocacy visits to the
Police command, Military Formations, Department of State Services, Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence Corps so as to ensure no corps member came to harm’s
way during the gubernatorial election for both state.
Gen Ibrahim also said
the scheme has intensify efforts to ensure only qualified Corps Members shall
be mobilized as no stone would be left on turned in protecting the sanctity of
the scheme to weed out unqualified elements dubiously seeking to be part of the
scheme with intent of validating their forged certificates.
He further disclosed
that plans are underway to give more bite to the skill acquisition programme
and NYSC ventures as expected along with the birthing of the NYSC Radio Station
in 2020 NYSC.
Explaining he said “The
station shall give a boost to the scheme to publicity drive of the scheme while
the welfare of staff and Corps Members shall continue to be the cardinal thrust
of my administration”.
