President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the commencement of a nationwide mass-metering programme in order to put an end to arbitrary estimated billing.

This was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, August 26, by Prof. James Momoh, chairman, Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

According to Prof Momoh , Buhari’s directive was in response to yearnings of Nigerians.

He also disclosed that Buhari also approved a waiver of the import levy on meters.

This, he said, will aid the smooth process of supplying the meters with minimal issues and at reasonable costs.

Also, he urged Nigerians to disregard any reports of an arbitrary tariff increase, saying that measures had been put in place to protect the poor and vulnerable in cases of tariff reviews.

Momoh added that customers receiving less than 12 hours of supply will also not experience any change in tariffs.
