Zamfara State to Import Goats, Cows from South Africa, Norway For RUGA Development

Zamfara state government has concluded plans to import goats and cows from South Africa and Norway as part of its efforts to develop RUGA settlements.

The Punch reports that this was made known by Governor Bello Matawalle in Kaura-namoda during the stakeholders training and step down mobilisation on Rural Grazing Areas (RUGA) development.

Matawalle who was represented by Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi, commissioner of forestry and livestock development, said the state has placed an order.

While noting that the animals would arrive in the state soon, Abdullahi, explained that the animals would be kept at RUGA in Maradun local government area and would serve as a model as part of the state government’s efforts in developing RUGA settlements.

According to Matawalle, the construction of RUGA settlement which is almost in completion stage cost N2.4 billion while stressing that a total sum of N8.6 billon was earmarked for the construction of three RUGA settlements in the three Senatorial Zones in the state.
